Spiritual Renovation: Spending time in the wilderness facilitates redemption, tuning the human spirit to a divine rhythm. By embracing solitude, it is possible to discover one’s own significance to the Lord.

Authentic Community: The path of life presents an opportunity to grow in Christ and be a productive citizen in His kingdom. On this adventure, there is adversity, misfortune, and suffering; however, through endurance, sacrifice, and perseverance, there is also accomplishment and celebration. Engaging with others in wilderness activities develops life skills that are imperative for positive community engagement. Wilderness adventures cultivate camaraderie and resourcefulness. As adventurers become aware of personal strengths and limitations, they learn how to work effectively and cohesively with others.

Wilderness ministry provides an alternate yet complementary outreach tool to the traditional church.

Leadership Facilitation: The Lord is our teacher, the wilderness is our classroom. Through wilderness adventures, participants learn the fundamentals of Biblical leadership. True North Navigators emphasizes honesty, integrity, and humility. By modeling these attributes, adventurers learn how to mentor like-interest peer groups, adults, and underprivileged families and youth.

Skill Development: The wilderness teaches trekkers that there are real consequences in life. How one navigates a challenging course determines how well they fare on the journey. Participants learn the following skills: communication, negotiation, conflict resolution, creative problem solving, strategic thinking, team building, personal effectiveness, and others. These skills will help adventurers effectively communicate the life-changing power of the Gospel to others.

Adventurers also learn technical skills such as kayaking, rafting, guiding, water safety, camping, wilderness first aid, backpacking, back country fishing, navigating, orienteering, and survival. Other principles are taught including nutrition, creation stewardship, and outdoor ethics.

Outdoors Intentionality: Wilderness excursions present new and unfamiliar environs, teaching trekkers how to engage with a world that is unpredictable. True North Navigators provides adventurers with the tools and experience necessary to navigate life, empowering them to maneuver through situations beyond their comfort zone. Wilderness experience teaches participants how to calculate, analyze, manage, and interact with risk. Risk is often associated with unknown, unplanned, and unprepared for circumstances. Risk closely parallels mystery and the challenge to overcome personal fears; this is at the heart of finding who we are in Christ. The wilderness is a simple and honest place, unencumbered by human imposition. Nature establishes the pace and rhythm. The human experience shrinks in awe of the grandeur and force contained in His creation.
